Grace Meng earns 6 major endorsements from the Midwest and beyond

Detroit, MI – Today DNC Vice Chair Grace Meng announced the endorsements of Congressmembers Debbie Dingell and Brenda Lawrence of Michigan; Congressmember and DNC Member Gregory Meeks of New York; DNC voting member Dr. Shauna Ryder Diggs of Michigan; Congressmember Cheri Bustos of Illinois; and Chairman of the DNC Small Business Council Andrew Lachman. This diverse support came in advance of the Detroit Future Forum for DNC officer elections, and represents continued momentum for Grace in her re-election campaign.

These endorsements join those from Congressmembers John Lewis, Judy Chu, Barbara Lee, and Maxine Waters; Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers; Stuart Appelbaum, President of Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union; Peter Ward, President of the Hotel Trades Council; the Chairs of the Democratic Parties in Alabama, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming; the DNC Caucus Chair for Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders; and the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO (APALA) in supporting Grace Meng’s re-election.

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell served as the president of the General Motors Foundation and as the Executive Director of Global Community Relations and Government Relations at GM before she ran for Congress in 2014. Her district spans the western suburbs of Detroit to Ann Arbor and was represented by her husband, John Dingell, for 50 years prior to her election.

Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence has served the people of Southfield, Michigan since the 1990’s as a school board member, City Councilmember, City Council President, Mayor, and Congresswoman. She was the first African American and first female mayor of Southfield, a position she held from 2001 until her election to Congress in 2014.

Congressman Gregory Meeks has represented Eastern Queens in Congress since 1998. He is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, the International Conservation Caucus, and the New Democrat Coalition.
Dr. Shauna Ryder Diggs is a board-certified dermatologist, a member of the University of Michigan Board of Regents, and a DNC voting member from Michigan. She also serves as chair of the board of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation and is a member of the Blue Care Network Board.

Journalist, Health Care Executive, and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos has represented the people of the Quad Cities, Peoria, Rockford, and Western Illinois in Congress since 2013. She has joined the bipartisan No Labels Group and sits on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Andrew Lachman founded the DNC’s Small Business Council and is also an attorney, college instructor, and civic activist in the Jewish community. He also served for three terms as President of Democrats for Israel, serves as legal council to the Anti-Defamation League Southwest Chapter, and has served as and advisor and legal counsel to countless democratic campaigns across California and the western United States.
